Reflection on language has long been a concern of philosophers. Kant, as one of the most prominent philosophers in the history of thought, has contributed to various discourses across both philosophical and non-philosophical fields. One of the domains where it was expected that Kant would reflect upon is the nature and essence of language. However, contemporaries of Kant, such as Hamann and Herder, have extensively engaged with the question of what language is and its relationship with thought. The central question of this paper is whether Kant addressed the issue of language in his works. This paper examines both the affirmative and negative aspects of this question, the implications it carries, and the various interpretations and readings that exist on this matter. The aim is to explore, based on Kant’s threefold intellectual development, his views on language and its relation to thought. The results of this article indicate that language in Kant’s thought has a complex and multifaceted status.
