This research employs a historical-analytical approach to examine the evolution of fifteen significant Persian translations of Surah Al-Asr from the 4th to the 15th century AH. Using the integrated theoretical framework of Antoine Berman and Norman Fairclough, it investigates how translations have been transformed by dominant historical discourses in Iran. Findings categorize the translations into five primary discursive types: jurisprudential-devotional, mystical-allegorical, velayati-esoteric, educational-commentary, and analytical-literal. Analysis of key terms "Asr," "Haqq," and "Sabr" demonstrates that their equivalents were profoundly influenced by each era's discursive demands. For instance, the equivalent for "Asr" evolved from "the other prayer" in Tabari's exegesis to "the era of guardianship" during the Safavid period, and later to "Asr" in modern translations. Analytically, this process represents both a "test of the foreign" for the Quranic text and demonstrates translation's role as a social act that reproduces power relations. Ultimately, this evolution reflects a paradigm shift in the relationship between religion, culture, and power in Iranian society.
