Cognitive linguists consider metaphore a cognitive tool for discerning the author’s intended meaning. Thus, by examining the metaphors in a text, the concepts intended by its’ creator are revealed. “Love” is a complex concept and the mystics have expressed it in mystical texts using various linguistic devices. The aim of the present study is to examine how love is metaphorically represented in the poems of Allameh Hasan-zadeh Amoli. The research method was descriptive-analytical and data collection was carried out through library research. The entire poetic corpus of this scholar-poet was studied and the couplets in which conceptual metaphors of love were used were selected. The data were analyzed within the framework of Lakoff and Johnson’s (2003) theory. The results showed that love was organized around thirteen primary metaphors. Semantic domains with positive valence were associated with concepts of life, healing, respect, security and power. Semantic domains with negative valence were associated with concepts of heedlessness, captivity, frailty, oppression, and annihilation.
