چکیده

the study integrates Wodak`s topoi of politics in action to compare between the speeches delivered by Donald J Trump (former president of the United States as representative of Republican Party) and President Joe Biden (representative of Democrat Party). The speeches were delivered through three presidential debates that were held between September and October. Due to the obtained results from the analysis of the comparison between the republican representative and that of the democrats', it was found that the two topoi of Justice and History were the most highly used ones during the speeches by Trump. In other words, convincing the audience and the opposed party through the discussions were mostly accomplished using the topoi of Justice and History. Following these were the topoi of Definition and Urgency with less frequency throughout the speeches. On the other hand, analyzing Biden`s speech indicated that the topoi of Justice, Definition, and Number were the most prominent topoi used in this speech, respectively.
