Halliday’s functional grammar describes the way of conveying meanings and establishing communication within society. Using a descriptive- analytical method within Halliday’s frame work, this study examines how meaning is exchanged in the alternating dialogues found in Surah Al-Fil. This article analyzes Surah Al-Fil, consisting of five verses and six clauses from the 30th part of the Quran, based on this approach. The results of the text analysis of this Surah sowed that, in the experiential metafunction, the material process had the highest frequency, which aligns with the overall theme of Surah. In interpersonal metafunction, past tense is emphasized in discourse of Surah. Since its use confirms the Abraha’s attack on the Kaaba as a certain and realized fact from the past. In textual metafunction, due to the simplicity of verses’ structures, unmarked themes have a higher frequency which makes it easy to understand the message and meaning of the verses.
