Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of neurofeedback on language rehabilitation in Broca's aphasia. The patient was a 39-year-old bilingual Turkish-Persian female with Broca's aphasia caused by an ischemic stroke in the left hemisphere. In this study, based on the patient's pre-test QEEG data, two neurofeedback protocols were designed and implemented over 10 sessions, including decreasing theta wave amplitude and increasing low beta amplitude at Cz and increasing alpha amplitude at Pz. Her language function was also assessed before the intervention with the Turkish-Persian bilingual aphasia test. After the intervention, changes in these two areas were re-examined. The study findings show that after the intervention, the pattern of brain activity changed in accordance with the protocol goals. Also, the patient's scores in the post-test of bilingual aphasia increased compared to the pre-test. Clinical observations also indicated an increase in speech fluency, word retrieval, and production of complex sentences.
