Abstract

In the contemporary era of social media expansion, emotions have become a central dimension of digital discourse. This study examines how emotions are discursively represented in Persian-language social networks, with particular attention to the linguistic, metaphorical, and platform-based mechanisms through which they are expressed and circulated. Adopting a qualitative design, the research employs critical discourse analysis and thematic analysis. The dataset consists of a purposive sample of user-generated posts from Twitter and Instagram collected between 2022 and 2024. Findings reveal that emotions are not merely represented as personal reactions but are constructed as socially situated actions. Users employ bodily metaphors, poetic expressions, collective pronouns, emojis, and emotional hashtags to communicate feelings, build solidarity, and organize collective protest. The analysis further highlights the ways emotional discourse intersects with broader issues of power, identity, and media. These insights contribute to understanding the complex dynamics of language and affect within Persian digital contexts.
