Abstract

This study examines the concept of time in narrative from two different perspectives. First, the classical structuralist perspective with emphasis on Genette's theory, and then the neuronarratology approach, which is an interdisciplinary theory that includes literary analysis, neuroscience, and cognitive psychology. In this study, ten key parts of the play The Maids are analyzed based on Genette's triad of order, continuity, and frequency, and from the perspective of neuronarratology and neuroscience, disorders in the perception of time, narrative memory, and episodic imagination. The results show that Genette's perspective is still effective in reconstructing the structure of narrative, but neuronarratology adds dimensions such as the subjective perception of time, the influence of emotion and memory, and even the corporeality of narrative experience to the analysis. The combination can open up new horizons in the study of drama and narrative, especially when the narrative work is not just a retelling, but a psychological and physical reconstruction of reality by the characters.
