Analysis of the Utopian Discourse in Abdolhossein San'atizadeh Kermani's Novel Majma’-e Divanegan Based on Laclau and Mouffe's theory of discourse

Abstract

This research investigates the utopian discourse articulated by Abdolhossein San'atizadeh Kermani in his novel Majma’-e Divanegan, employing the discourse analysis framework proposed by Laclau and Mouffe. Utilizing a descriptive-analytical methodology, The primary objective is to explore how modern discourse is articulated in contrast to traditional discourse, focusing on the author's construction of a utopian society. The findings reveal that the author’s modernist discourse emerges in direct opposition to the dominant traditional discourse of his time, positioning modernity, scientific progress, and rationality as nodal points around which he articulates various floating signifiers such as social equality, enhanced lifespan, social securityThe implications extend beyond literary analysis, contributing to a broader understanding of how discourse shapes societal values and aspirations, emphasizing literature's role as a powerful medium for social critique and transformation, ultimately inviting readers to reflect on the dynamics of modernity and tradition and the potential for literature to inspire societal progress
