Abstract

This article deals with the semiotic analysis of the poem "Maria" by Amal Danqol based on the functional levels of Pierre Guirou's language. Danqol, as a leading poet in contemporary Arab literature, uses symbolic and critical language to analyze the complexities of Identity and society and presents a vivid picture of the contrast between traditional and modern life. This research aims to discover the hidden meanings of the poem by reading it at different levels and to answer questions such as how the meaning and overall message of the work are formed through different linguistic functions. In this research, Pierre Guirou's semantic-functional levels are first examined. Then, the poem "Maria" is analyzed within this framework to show which linguistic function has the highest frequency in this work and how this frequency can be justified. The present study emphasizes the importance of examining the semantic layers and linguistic functions in more depth in understanding
