Abstract

In this research the aim is to examine the diachronic vowel fronting process from Middle Western Iranian to new era in Kurdish dialect of Sonqor-u-Koljɑee based on Generative phonology. In this research fifty sample words has been examined (including substantive, adjective, verb & verb stem) in which vowel fronting process have been occurred. The data has been collected via two ways written sources and interview with 10 literate and illiterate native informants male and female in different age groups from 30 to 70 years old. The author is also a native speaker of this Kurdish dialect. In this research tries to answer this question: In which context of the word vowel fronting process from Middle period to this Kurdish dialect has been occurred? The result of this research showed that the diachronic vowel fronting process in this Kurdish dialect has been occurred in the context of proximity to the anterior consonants.
