A Comparative Study of Conceptual Metaphors in Khasi Dar Miqat with their English Equivalents based on Lakoff and Johnson’s Theory

Abstract

In this article, the researchers based their work on the Lakoff and Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory. Considering that literary texts are full of abstract concepts and conceptual metaphors, in our country no study has been done focused on one literary work and specifically on all three categories of constructional, ontological and orientational metaphors, so Khasi Dar Miqat by Jalal-e Al Ahmad, which is actually a description of everyday events, is an authoritative source. The method of conducting the research was descriptive. The corpus of this research included Khasi Dar Miqat and its English translation. The sample size consisted of the same sentences with conceptual metaphors used in both books. According to the results, the researchers concluded that conceptual metaphors are not specific to the language of poetry and literature, or only necessary for the beauty of written and spoken words, but metaphors are present in everyday language.
