Abstract

One of the discourse components in feminist discourse is the issue of "female/feminine identity". feminists redefine women's identity and reconstruct it based on their ideologies and intellectual approaches. Literature, that has always been influenced by discourses, has represented these identity developments. Ihsan Abdel Quddous, one of the contemporary Egyptian writers, is among the writers who paid special attention to this representation in her works. This article, using a descriptive-analytical method, using Roger Fowler's linguistics approach at the level of text analysis, analyzes the feminist discourse on the construction of female identity in the novel "I forgot I am a woman" by Ihsan Abdel Quddous. Fowler's approach is aimed at analyzing the structure and linguistic components of the text, including the analysis of representation, structure of words, propositional part of the content, marked words, the types of semantic relationships between words and sentences, the author's expressive and literary style in use From the arrays and literary arts for the effective transfer of concepts, which is done with the aim of discovering and understanding the appropriateness of the text with social structures and its situational and discourse context. Investigations and analyzes show the influence of feminist discourse in constructing the components of female identity in Abdel Quddous'. The most obvious manifestations of female identity in this narrative are the identities of woman as "an activist and agent", "rebellious and norm-breaker" and "critic and questioner", and each of these manifestations have different manifestations that are detailed in the article
