Abstract

Caricature is often designed in a humorous way to invite the audience to think at the same time as it criticizes social, political and cultural issues. After the corona epidemic in the world, cartoonists found a lot to do with cartoons related to corona, quarantine and health guidelines. Since the distinctive characteristic of caricature is deviation from the standard and turning the characteristics and behaviors of people and phenomena into interesting and funny forms; Therefore, the Arabic corona cartoons can be analyzed based on the methods of deviating from the standard, which was first proposed by Ivan Fonaghi. Based on this, in this research, an attempt is made to analyze the Arabic Corona cartoons based on the theory of Fonagy, relying on the descriptive-analytical method. The results show that the most important techniques used in the discussed cartoons are short-circuiting, grotesque, destruction of guesses, strangeness of imaginary images, anthropomorphism and animism. There is also a wide and creative interaction in the use of each of these methods, which is sometimes a composite caricature of several deviation methods. As a result, Arab cartoonists have put all their efforts so that the result of their work is similar to the issue of Corona, with the difference that by adding the element of exaggeration in the text and image, the result of the work has become more abstract and unique.
